Our mandate is to improve quality of life for community members by providing social, recreational, educational and health programs, services, support and referral.

Children & Youth Programs

Early Years Preschool & Playgroup

Early learning preschool program for children 2-6 years of age.

Play based learning to support the development of fine motor, gross motor, social and language skills, and kindergarten readiness. Circle time, outdoor play and healthy snacks provided. Playgroup for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, parents and caregivers.

Early learning activities, parent support, nutritious snacks, resources and referral.

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 9:30AM – 12:30PM

Funded by Ontario Early Years in partnership with the South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre

After School Programs

Fun and inclusive after school programs for children 6-12 years of age.

Healthy snacks, recreation and academic support, including numeracy and literacy skills, STEAM activities and tutoring. Cooking, genius club, hip hop, run club, junior boy and girls clubs.

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Funded by United Way East Ontario and supported by the Ottawa Food Bank.

Youth Space

Youth night, boys and girls clubs, basketball, swimming, academic and employment support. Cooking, workshops, guest speakers, volunteer opportunities and out-trips.

Monday & Friday, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Funded by the City of Ottawa

Summer Camp

Day camp activities and health lunches & snacks for children 6-12 years of age.

Sports, art, cooking, swimming, field trips and enrichment activities to support early literacy and numeracy skills.

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

With support from Canada Summer Jobs, Ottawa Food Bank and Ottawa Public Library

Soccer

A fun and dynamic introduction to soccer and a mix of technical skill development and small side play for children 6-12 years of age.

Weekly team practices at Hutton Park and end of season community tournament. Volunteer opportunities for youth.

Weekly evening practice (1½ hrs) for 12 weeks (July – August) & Soccer Festival at end of season.

In partnership with OCH Foundation and Ottawa TFC Soccer Club.

Swimming

Weekly visits to local pools to increase confidence, enjoyment and water safety skills for children and youth 6-18 years of age.

Saturday Afternoons 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm (Hours vary depending on pool & season)

Winter Rink

Daily supervised recreational skating for children and youth throughout the winter season. Skates and helmets available at the Youth House.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Saturday & Sunday, 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Adult Programs

Job Training

Equipping community members with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s competitive job market. We offer practical training sessions that cover a wide range of topics, including resume building, interview preparation, and career counseling. Our goal is to empower participants to confidently pursue their career aspirations and achieve long-term employment success.

Workshops that teach participants how to create effective resumes tailored to different job opportunities

Schedule: Mondays to Thursday: 3:30PM – 5:30PM

Cooking Classes

Discover the joy of cooking with our hands-on Cooking Classes at Russell Heights Community House. Our classes are designed to teach you how to prepare healthy and budget-friendly meals that you can easily recreate at home. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced cook looking to expand your culinary skills, our interactive sessions provide a fun and educational experience for everyone.

These activities not only help children and teens stay active and healthy but also teach valuable life skills such as leadership, cooperation, and discipline.

Food Security

Russell Heights Community House is committed to combating hunger and promoting nutrition within our community. We believe that access to healthy food is a fundamental right, and we strive to provide resources and education to ensure no one goes hungry. The program includes various initiatives such as a community pantry, monthly food distribution events, nutrition education workshops, and community meals.

Food Pantry

Our community pantry is stocked with non-perishable food items, fresh produce, and essential household goods. Community members can visit the pantry to select items they need, ensuring they have access to nutritious food.

Schedule: Open every Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Location: Community House Basement, Room 101

Monthly Food Distribution

On the last Friday of each month, we distribute food baskets filled with groceries and fresh produce to families in need. This event helps bridge the gap for those experiencing food insecurity.
